Australian Group Races are the highest class of thoroughbred race in Australian racing. The most recognised group races in Australia are the Melbourne Cup, Caulfield Cup, Golden slipper and WS Cox Plate, which are all Group 1 races.

Group races total over 540+ races each year which works out around 2-3% of total races held each season in Australia.

Group races are divided into 4 categories;
Group 1 - at least $250,000 prizemoney - 60+ races per season
Group 2 - at least $125,000 prizemoney - 80+ races per season
Group 3 - at least $75,000 prizemoney - 110+ races per season
Listed - at least $50,000 prizemoney - 280+ races per season

The Australian horse racing season runs from August to July each year and we have listed all the Group 1 and Group 2 races on the racing calendar.

The Fruit n Veg Stakes had its named changed to Kingston Town Classic in 2007 and is the second biggest race held during the Perth summer racing carnival with prizemoney of $500,000 and attracts quality gallopers from interstate who match it with the locals to create a race of much interest.

The Kingston Town Classic is an 1800 metre Australian thoroughbred horse race run under Weight for Age conditions. It is named in honor of the Australian Racing Hall of Fame horse, Kingston Town who won the race in 1982.

A Group One event, the Kingston Town Classic is held each December at Ascot Racecourse in Perth, Western Australia .

Horses may come from the Gr2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m WFA), Gr2 WA Guineas (1600m 3yoSW) or the Gr1 Railway Stakes (1600m Hcp) on their way to this event.

Recent winners of the Kingston Town Classic have been Sniper's Bullet in 2009, Niconero twice in 2008 & 2006 and Megatic in 2007.
